Complete, full-featured and easy-to-use financial research publishing systems for buy-side and sell-side firms
Every sell-side firm needs a method for producing research. Research for a sell-side firm is a very important part of the business cycle. A firm with highly regarded research can improve it's bottom line through increased trading commissions. A firm with lack luster research is soon found trailing the pack as buy-side firms look for better research at other sell-side firms. With RPS a sell-side firm can get you the buy-side exposure your research deserves. Better research, more quickly produced and more efficiently has sell-side firms using RPS way ahead of their competition with increasing sales and higher commission dollars. A typical sell-side firm utilizing RPS can see a return on investment that pays for RPS within less than a year.
How research is produced at a sell-side firm varies from firm to firm. If you look at enough firms though you see some commonality. Typically, analysts store their financial estimates, figures and projections in Excel models. The models created vary widely in layout and content. Reports and research notes are invariably created as Word documents and are later converted to PDF documents. Almost, without fail, the reports and notes are based on some sort of template created in-house and distributed within the firm's research department as the recommended basis for each analyst to use. Many times the template is only used as a starting point and analyst are found fiddling with formatting and changing things to suite their own desires. Inefficiencies are setup by having analysts taking time to format document and having downstream editors trying to re-edit large numbers of document to make them all look the same.
Firms that are template-based and don't have some sort of publishing system find that the creation of each research document is time consuming prone to errors. Documents require financial values to be manually copied from Excel models. Templates don't check for missing values or if values are valid. And, without some sort of database, previous values are not remembered and subsequent documents need to be completely recreated or need to be based on a previous document with careful consideration for such and very careful re-editing.
The BHS RPS system gives sell-side firms a publishing system without limitations. RPS provides efficiency and ease of use by allowing analysts and other research authors to publish reports directly from popular desktop applications (e.g. Word or Excel) with the click of a button. Previous financial values are remembered and offered to analysts on subsequent reports reducing the amount of manual re-typing considerably. Also, with all of the financial information in a database, firms can produce customized reports and alerts based on this information for the first time.
All published notes are available through a customized web interface. Research directors have access to powerful customization features as well.
Additionally, RPS supports integration with 3rd party pricing sources, automatic conversion of research to various formats (HTML, XML, PDF) and dissemination to 3rd party vendors.Features
